After a delay, the Chinese joint venture JAC Volkswagen has started the sale of the first model of its electric car brand SOL. The E20X was supposed to come onto the market last year and is now available at prices starting at around 16,450 euros after subsidies.

The joint venture between Volkswagen and JAC plans to invest the equivalent of 674 million euros ($750M) in an electric car plant in Hefei, China. The environmental permit has already been granted for the production of 100,000 electric cars per year.

VW has started serial production of the E20X with their partner JAC in China. The model is a moderately changed version of the JAC compact EV iEV7S. It will be released on the market in the second half of the year.

Volkswagen is set to invest a significantly increased sum into the e-mobility business, including autonomous driving, digitization and new mobility services in China. By 2022, the company plans to invest 15 billion dollars with its joint venture partners SAIC, FAW and JAC.
