VW has started serial production of the E20X with their partner JAC in China. The model is a moderately changed version of the JAC compact EV iEV7S. It will be released on the market in the second half of the year.

The E20X will be the first electric vehicle under the brand of the new SOL, presented in April at the Beijing Motor Show. The brand was explicitly created for the Chinese market. Originally, the plan was to use the Seat brand, or more specifically, the Chinese version known as Xiyate, but the Chinese government halted these plans.

The E20X is also fitted with JAC’s NEV technology, which was inspired by Seat’s design and integrated into the quality management processes of the Volkswagen Group. According to media reports, the vehicle will have more than 300 km range. In terms of technical specifications, the vehicle is identical to the iEV7S. The motor performance of the SOL EV is also unchanged at 85 kW. Further details have not been released yet.

In total, three purely electric vehicle models are planned for the 2017 founded joint venture company. The MEB platform will not be used for this, however. The platform will so far only be used on the other Chinese joint ventures in which Volkswagen is involved in.
