New player on e-van market: The electric truck business is brewing in Europe and SAIC decided to add its Maxus EV80 to the mix. Distribution will be handled by SAIC Mobility Europe that asked Maske Fleet to offer the electric transporter to corporate clients in Germany and Austria. Misuse of funds: China is accusing a total of 25 carmakers of cheating in the country’s subsidies programme for electric vehicles. On the list of offenders is also JAC, with whom VW is in talks about a possible joint venture. Nissan, Hyundai and Geely don’t seem to have a spotless record either. China takes over production lead: According to the McKinsey Electric Vehicle Index, China is now the most important country in terms or churning out EVs, pushing Japan into second place. VW fights: Volkswagen is to present six electric concepts by 2018 and four are likely to see the light at the end of a serial production line. Autobild reports of a CUVe, a Coupé Utility Vehicle in two versions, designed to share the market with Tesla’s Model 3. The NUVe however, takes its inspiration from the BMW i3 and will sit next to the e-Golf when it debuts in Paris this fall. A new electric model will be introduced at the beginning of the next decade, called the BWM i Next – which will also be the first offspring of the project i2.0that focuses more on connected and automated driving.
