Mercedes announces changes in management
Mercedes-Benz has announced various new appointments in top management, affecting Level 1 below the Group Board of Management. Among others, Christoph Starzynski, currently Head of Development Electric Drive, will assume responsibility for the overall vehicle development of all Mercedes-Benz passenger car series as of 1 July 2023.

Mercedes to launch final combustion platform vehicle in 2023
The new generation E-Class planned for 2023 will be the last new model from Mercedes-Benz on an internal combustion engine platform. All subsequent new model series in the future will be based on architectures that the Stuttgart-based company is developing specifically for electric vehicles.

Daimler considers earlier stop to combustion engines
Statements made by Daimler board member Markus Schäfer are now giving strength to the rumour Daimler could phase out the internal combustion engine well before the planned date of 2039. Schäfer did not, however, name a new “end date”.

Mercedes & Geely joint venture for Smart ready to go
The China joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely around Smart announced at the end of March last year has now been formally established with all relevant final approvals from Chinese authorities. The first electric Smart cars made in China are to be launched on the market in 2022.
