Alstom to construct hydrogen trains for four regions in France
Alstom has received its first orders for hydrogen trains in France. On behalf of four regions, the state railway company SNCF has ordered the first twelve trains developed by Alstom to run on both overhead lines and hydrogen. The order is worth almost 190 million euros.

Bombardier converts five trains to zero-emission
Bombardier will convert five of its diesel-hybrid trains to purely electric operation through a combined battery and overhead line operation by 2023. Bombardier was recently acquired by the Alstom group and supplied the hybrid trains it will also now convert for the French railway company SNCF.

French cargo specialist Geodis expands its electric fleet
Geodis, the street cargo unit of French railway company SNCF, is going to expand its electric vehicle fleet from currently a dozen to 50 cars by June 2018. With this step, Geodis responds to plans published by the Paris city council to ban diesel-powered vehicles by 2020.

Mind the gap!
The French train operator SNCF has made a big faux-pas, quite literally. It ordered 2,000 new trains which are simply too wide for many stations in its network. Planning was done on the measurements of stations built in the last 30 years while most stations in France actually date back 50 years. What a very costly “malheur!”
