German supplier ElringKlinger agreed with Chengfei Integration Technology (CITC), a cell maker from China, to set up a joint venture. Together they are to develop, produce and sell battery modules globally.

The agreement will see CITC contribute lithium-ion battery cells via its subsidiary China Aviation Lithium Battery (CALB), while ElringKlinger will add all other module components and also oversee design and production.

The focus for the next ten years is international and ElringKlinger hopes to penetrate  e-mobility projects in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
