Chinese Tianjin Lishen Battery says it is in talks with Volkswagen and Daimler to deliver batteries for their upcoming EV models. While the report is unconfirmed, Lishen is opening its first HQ in Europe close to VW’s hometown Wolfsburg.

Reuters quotes a source close to the matter, saying the Chinese battery maker is negotiating with Daimler and Volkswagen to supply Li-ion batteries. Says the source at Lishen: “We are negotiating with VW and Daimler. We have sent samples to these carmakers and are waiting for the next stage – mass production.”

While Daimler declined comment and VW said that there was nothing to say at this stage, Tianjin Lishen plans to open it first sales office in Europe in Germany. Again, not much has been said apart from Lishen saying that it would be a “sales office” and not a factory and that it would be located close to Wolfsburg, where VW resides.
