Volkswagen births the ID.4 out of the ID. Crozz

Volkswagen has given a “concrete outlook” on a fully electric compact SUV. The model, for which the study has so far been called ID. Crozz, will be called ID.4 as a production vehicle. This is the second MEB model after the ID.3, and should be launched before the end of this year.

Turkish joint venture presents two electric cars

In a ceremony attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, two electric car prototypes by the Turkish Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG) were officially revealed. The electric compact sedan and the electric SUV are to be introduced to the market in 2022.

US market launch of Mercedes EQC delayed till 2021

Mercedes has postponed the US launch of its EQC by at least one year to 2021. The German carmaking giant says that this “strategic decision” is because it “first wants to meet the growing customer demand for the EQC in Europe”. Meanwhile, BAIC wants to double its stake in Daimler.

Buick goes electric in China, finallly

After initial delays, Buick now launched the brand’s first global all-electric vehicle, the Velite 6 MAV in China. It is also SAIC-GM’s first EV for the mass market. It features a maximum 85 kW of power, 255 Nm of torque and range of 301 km in the city.

Rivian airs EV model plans / GM is off the table

The electric car startup Rivian plans to expand its fleet to six pickups and SUVs of different sizes by 2025 and also to produce electric vehicles for other companies. Meanwhile (and with Amazon on board) the negotiations regarding the participation of General Motors appear to have failed.

Audi revises e-tron production targets downwards

Audi has reduced the e-tron production target for this year at its Brussels plant by more than 10,000 units to 45,242 units, due to supply issues. Also, production of Audi’s second electric model, the e-tron Sportback, is to be postponed until 2020.

Daimler breaks ground for U.S. battery factory

Mercedes-Benz has broken ground for its new battery plant in Tuscaloosa, USA, which will form part of their global network of production hubs. The carmaker is investing a total of $1BN at the site, which will begin building batteries for the future EQ series.
