The Volvo and Geely electric car subsidiary Polestar has published the final list prices for Polestar 2 in European countries where the Tesla Model 3 competitor will be launched. In the UK, for example, the base price is 49,900 GBP.
Production of the Polestar EV, which can already be pre-ordered, is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2020, with delivery set to begin in June 2020.
The Polestar will be available in Germany (58,800 euros), Norway (469,000 NOK), Sweden (659,000 SEK), Great Britain (49,900 GBP), Belgium and the Netherlands (both at 59,800 euros).
Outside Europe, the market launch is also planned in North America, where Volvo and its subsidiary Polestar get separate tax credits and China, where Polestar just opened a new factory. The guide prices of 63,000 US dollars and 460,000 yuan (around 57,300 and 58,600 euros, respectively) will continue to apply there. According to Polestar, final prices will follow at a later date. With Polestar 2, the Swedish-Chinese brand will be the first carmaker to offer an alternative to the Tesla Model 3.
Polestar 2 is the brand’s first all-electric model. Based on Volvo’s CMA platform, the five-door hatchback brings 660 Nm of torque to the road and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds. The battery consists of 324 cells divided into 27 modules. The DC charging capacity should be up to 150 kW. For the AC charge, 11 kW has been promised. Polestar quotes 500 km as the range according to WLTP.
In the meantime, pre-orders and subsequent orders can only be placed online directly with Polestar. Anyone who wants to find out more about the car and take part in test drives will soon have the opportunity to do so in a new branch network which is currently being set up. According to the company, the first of these “Polestar Spaces” will be opened before the end of the year. By the end of 2020, a total of 50 stores are to be opened worldwide, seven of them in Germany.
