Lightning eMotors receives EV order for $45 million from ABC

Lightning eMotors announced an order from ABC Companies for a total value of $45 million. This will buy 200 additional electric vehicles for the company fleet, including everything from Class 3 Transit passenger wagons to motorcoaches with fully electric powertrain systems.

The first of the zero-emissions vehicles was delivered last December, starting the delivery officially. Furthermore, delivery does not mark the end of the service provided by Lightning eMotors, as under the order and partnership, Lightning eMotors is obligated to train ABC Companies personnel to install and service the electric powertrain systems.

The exact order specifies a number of Class 8 motorcoaches, but also includes “Class 3 Lightning Electric Transit passenger vans, Class 4 Lightning Electric E-450 shuttle buses, Class 5 Lightning Electric F-550 shuttle buses, and Class 7 transit buses”. Additionally, ABC will be taking over some of the service and marketing tasks for Lightning, as the communication states “ABC also will be an authorized nationwide service center and distributor for new and repower options for Lightning eMotors’ popular shuttle vans and cutaway applications

“The first motorcoach delivered has met the high expectations many of our customers have,” said Roman Cornell, president and chief commercial officer of ABC Companies. “It has excellent power, over 200 miles of range on a charge, and Lightning’s energy division can support installation of fast-charging systems that meet our customer’s stringent requirements. This agreement demonstrates our commitment to work together with Lightning eMotors and sets our order plans for the next 24 months.”
