As reported, in October 2019, the EU Commission opened an investigation to examine whether Hungary’s plans to grant subsidies of 108 million euros to Samsung SDI for the expansion of its battery cell production facility in Göd, Hungary, complied with EU rules on regional state aid.

The Commission now says that the investigation is being extended after Hungary and Samsung SDI submitted new documents supporting a different account of why the aid was necessary.
