Jan Oehmicke takes over as DACH VP at MG Motor

Jan Oehmicke has been appointed Vice President for the DACH region of MG Motor. Tesla’s former European head is to take over operational responsibility for the SAIC brand in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Oehmicke had left Tesla as head of Europe in 2019. The British SAIC brand MG Motor is increasingly expanding into continental Europe with its BEV and PHEV models, as reported. Oehmicke is to assume operational responsibility in the region in the rank of vice president and work closely with Richard Yuan, president of MG Motor DACH, according to MG Motor.

In the announcement, the SAIC brand lists the new hire’s responsibilities as including the development and implementation of the company’s strategy as well as the further expansion of the dealer network and the development of new financial services and mobility initiatives. Currently, MG Motor has around 50 sales outlets in Germany.

“We are excited to welcoming Jan Oehmicke at MG Motor Europe,” says Matt Lei, CEO MG Motor Europe. “His extensive international leadership and automotive experience will help us to further accelerate MG’s growth in Europe.”

Oehmicke himself claims to be joining MG Motor “at an exciting time”. “I’m joining MG during an exciting time and look forward to leveraging my experience to support the team in Europe to achieve its ambitious growth targets. MG’s very innovative and quickly expanding product portfolio is well suited for the European markets. It’s a unique opportunity to combine innovative vehicles with a highly customer centric commercial strategy” says the former Tesla and BMW manager.

Currently, MG offers the electric SUV ZS EV and a PHEV SUV called EHS. In addition, the brand has already unveiled the 4.70-metre Marvel R Electric electric SUV, which will be powered by either two or three engines. The MG5 compact electric estate has been on sale in the UK for some time, but will reportedly receive a facelift before its launch in continental Europe.
