Kreisel Electric delivers batteries to Swedish boat builder

Austrian eMobility specialist Kreisel Electric has signed a five-year contract with Swedish electric boat manufacturer X Shore worth €50 million.

Under the partnership, Kreisel will supply its battery packs for X Shore’s Eelex 8000 electric boat. Specifically, two Kreisel Battery Packs (KBP 63) with a total capacity of 126 kWh will be installed in each boat.

The X Shore Eelex 8000 is an eight-metre long and 2.60-metre wide electric boat. The maximum speed is given by the Swedish company as 30 knots (55.5 kph), the cruising speed is supposed to be 20 knots (37 kph). With its 225 kW motor, the Eelex 8000 is said to be able to accelerate to 20 knots in 4.2 seconds. With the 126 kWh gyro battery, the boat is said to be able to travel 100 nautical miles or 185.2 kilometres “at low speeds”.

The eight-metre boat can be fitted with more than ten different superstructures to suit customers’ respective leisure uses – from fishing boats to family boats “for socialising”, as X Shore puts it on its homepage.

Jenny Keisu, CEO of X Shore, states that they want to set the course for the industry towards long-term sustainability after securing “the best batteries on the market” for the next five years. Jennifer Preston, CEO of Kreisel Electric, adds that they see “tremendous growth potential” in X Shore’s electric recreational boats to promote a greener future.

The partners are not just concerned with electric drives instead of internal combustion engines in the boats. By 2025, X Shore and Kreisel say they will strive to source materials like cobalt “in the most socially and environmentally responsible way possible”. By 2025, full traceability in the battery supply chain should also be achieved.
