US American electric truck manufacturer Orange EV has announced it will establish its new corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations in the Turner Logistics Center, an industrial park under construction in Kansas City. (UPDATE BELOW)

Orange EV expects to move into the new facility in mid-2023, giving the company access to over 400,000 ft² of industrial space. The new facility is to provide the company with the production and office space necessary to accommodate the necessary growth and is designed to support a production capacity of up to 1,800 terminal trucks annually via single-shift operations.

“With this additional capacity, we will be able to ramp up our capacity to deliver on our mission to impact global warming by replacing the dirtiest on-road vehicle with a zero-emission vehicle while also providing overwhelming savings and improved operations for our customers,” said Kurt Neutgens, co-founder and President of Orange EV.

The US American company explained that the choice of Kansas City was made due to the geographic location of the property, “which will enable good access for its current employees and will attract future talent across the greater Kansas City metro area. Orange EV presently employs over 200 team members predominantly in Kansas City, including leadership, engineering, service, and support”. “Our new site enables us to continue to extend our market leadership in EV terminal trucks and begin development of new products and services for the electric truck industry,” explains Wayne Mathisen, co-founder and CEO of Orange EV.

In August, Orange EV had made headlines with a $35 million fundraising round, which has evidently been successful enough to bear the cost of the new headquarters. Orange EV was founded just across the river from Kansas City in Riverside, Missouri, in 2012, strongly locally embedding the company.

“Locating another EV manufacturer to Kansas delivers a charge to this developing sector,” Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland said. “Orange EV is the kind of industry leader our state will continue recruiting as Kansas becomes the epicentre of sustainable transportation.”

Update 29 February 2024

Orange EV has opened its new 440,000 sq ft headquarters and production facility in Kansas City. The manufacturer of heavy-duty electric trucks now has the capacity to produce more than 2,000 trucks annually han 2,000 trucks annually.

“Orange EV’s investment of more than $37 million will create 185 new jobs right here in Kansas City benefiting families throughout Wyandotte County,” said Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, adding: “Between Panasonic and now Orange EV, we are home to a growing EV and battery sector that will uplift our state and power the future of transportation.”
