US electric car manufacturer Lucid Motors appoints a new European head and opens its fourth European retail studio – its first in Norway. Lucid’s new Managing Director for Europe is Michael van der Sande, who will report directly to CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson and be based in Amsterdam at Lucid’s European headquarters.

This weekend, on 4 March, Lucid Motors will open the doors of its newest location in Oslo. It is the company’s first site in the Nordics and underpins its mission to expand globally. “We are delighted to open this brand-new studio in Oslo, Norway, a country at the forefront of electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure,” said Michael van der Sande, Managing Director for Lucid Europe.

The location in the Norwegian capital is Lucid’s fourth sales outlet in Europe – after Munich, Geneva and Hilversum just outside Amsterdam. Lucid Motors started deliveries of its Air electric luxury sedan in Europe in December.

Van der Sande is Lucid Motors’ new man for Europe, taking over as Managing Director for the continent. He has 30 years of experience in the automotive industry and worked as Managing Director of Special Vehicle Operations for Jaguar Land Rover prior to joining the EV maker. And having worked as SVP of Global Sales, Marketing and Service at Tesla, van der Sande also has a background in electric mobility.

“Having followed Lucid’s development over the years, I am confident that the Lucid Air is the best electric car on the market today. I am thrilled to be joining Lucid and look forward to working with the team on both sides of the Atlantic to bring our cutting-edge electric cars to customers throughout Europe “, says van der Sande, who will be working from the company’s headquarters in Amsterdam.

Last week, Lucid published its 2022 financial results. The company posted a billion-dollar loss, though the number of deliveries – and thus revenue – is on the rise. Lucid CFO Sherry House said the carmaker would leave “no stone unturned for every cost optimisation” for the coming year but that Lucid is primarily focused on growth.
