Japanese vehicle manufacturer Isuzu Motors plans to launch a heavy-duty truck with fuel cell technology from Honda in 2027. An agreement signed by both companies confirmed this.

Honda and Isuzu Motors had previously agreed to jointly research heavy-duty trucks with fuel cells in early 2020. The plan is to start demonstration testing of a prototype truck on public roads in the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2024. The series production model is then planned to follow in 2027.

Honda published its future strategy for the use of fuel cells for its own use and marketing in February 2023. At the time, Honda had decided to split its fuel cell efforts into four core domains for the utilization of its fuel cell system: fuel cell vehicles, commercial vehicles, stationary power stations and construction machinery. The company had further announced intentions to actively engage in collaboration with other companies.

Isuzu is also following other partnerships in the area of fuel cell trucks, for example in the area of light commercial trucks with Hino and Toyota.
