US truck maker Mack announced that its medium-duty Mack MD Electric is now available for order. It is the manufacturer’s second battery-electric model – but the first in the medium-duty segment – and is available for the US vehicle classes 6 and 7.

The Mack MD Electric was first unveiled in March and is an offshoot of the diesel-powered version introduced in 2020. Both the Class 6 and the Class 7 variant produce up to 194 kW and come with two battery options: The NMC cell batteries offer 150 or 240 kWh capacity and provide ranges of 150 and 230 miles (approximately 240 and 37MD Electric and all on-board accessories are powered by nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) oxide lithium-ion batteries, in either a 150 kWh or a 240 kWh configuration.

“Mack is committed to moving toward a more sustainable decarbonised future, and the MD Electric is just another step in our journey,” says Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Since we introduced the MD Electric in March, we’ve received overwhelming customer response and interest, so we’re happy that customers can now place their orders.”

The medium-duty truck is the manufacturer’s second electric vehicle in its line-up, following the LR Electric heavy-duty truck – a truck tailored primarily for the waste management industry. The latter has been produced since late 2021 at Mack’s Macungie plant in Pennsylvania, USA.

Mack does not communicate the prices of either model but instead says that interested parties should contact their local dealership in the US. However, the manufacturer does mention that the MD Electric is approved to be a part of California’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), said to “accelerate the commercialisation of zero-emission trucks by offering point-of-sale vouchers to increase the affordability of advanced technologies.”

Mack is part of the Volvo Group.
