The total of 42 Urbino 12 Electric and Urbino 18 Electric from the current order will be delivered in 2024 and 2025, according to Solaris. The Urbino 12 Electric, which ATMS Catania has configured, will have a 350 kWh battery, while the electric articulated buses will have 400 kWh. Both models will be charged on the move by pantograph and by cable at the depot.

Once the vehicles are delivered, they will meet some of the manufacturer’s e-buses already in service. The seven Urbino 12 electric ordered by AMTS Catania in 2022 entered service earlier this year. A further eleven will be delivered by the end of 2023, before the 42 new e-buses now on order will follow in 2024 and 2025. Then there will be a total of 60 electric Solaris buses in the ATMS Catania fleet.

The current order – like previous orders – is being handled through a Solaris framework agreement with the central purchasing office Consip S.p.A. Roma. “We are extremely proud of the trust placed in our company by the carrier AMTS Catania, which has ordered another batch of zero-emission buses from our company,” says Olivier Michard, member of the Solaris management board for sales and marketing. “We are happy to be able to support the green transition of transport in Catania and to deliver more innovative solutions for the inhabitants of this lovely Sicilian port.”
