Brighton & Hove adds new public charge points

UK municipality Brighton & Hove will add 100 new lamp post charging points and 20 new fast chargers next month. That way, it will offer close to 500 EV chargers.

First up are the AC chargers. The city received a 440,000-pound government grant from the OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles). It will cover 60 per cent of the total cost of the above-mentioned lamppost chargers, supplied and operated by Blink Charging. The latter will also foot the remaining 40 per cent of the bill. The fast chargers will likely be added later this spring or summer.

However, that will not be the end of the story. In February, Brighton & Hove received a 2.865 million pound grant through the Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, “which will support the installation of at least 1,650 new chargers over the next three years.” According to its own accounts, Brighton & Hove is already “one of the best covered cities in the UK” in terms of EV chargers.

“Brighton & Hove really is leading the way when it comes to providing an Electric Vehicle infrastructure fit for the future,” says Councillor Trevor Muten, Chair of the Transport and Sustainability committee. “This funding means we can provide hundreds of new charge points for the thousands of residents and visitors who’ve made the switch to electric or will do so in the years ahead.”
