New fuel cell drive for on and off-highway vehicles

British developer Viritech announced the launch of a hydrogen powertrain ready to run on road cars, light commercial vehicles, and off-highway applications. The VPT60N comprises a 60 kW fuel cell and drivetrain delivering up to 200 kW.

There is also a 16 kWh battery with BMS and cooling components. Viritech adds that battery and hydrogen storage are available in “bespoke form factors” and in a standard option to minimise lead times. The powertrain comes complete with all systems integration, and the VCU is preconfigured for system start-up within the vehicle.

Viritech considers the powertrain ready for OEMs, Tier-1’s and research bodies, allowing for the rapid deployment of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

These can include non-homologated prototype vehicles, with Viritech’s engineering division able to support vehicle integration and development (including HMI and functional safety case) to achieve a fully homologated end product.

Timothy Lyons, CEO of Viritech, further describes the fuel cell driver as “a viable, available and easily integrated” option, which enables manufacturers to accelerate the delivery of FCEVs on and off-highway.
