British energy service provider Mitie has added the 5,000th electric vehicle to its fleet. Two thirds of its fleet are now purely electric, and the electrification will be completed by the end of 2025.

In February, Mitie ordered 650 VW ID. Buzz Cargo. One of these ID. Buzz was also the 4,000th electric vehicle that Mitie added to its fleet. That means the company added another 1,000 electric vehicles in about two months.

The 5,000th vehicle is also an ID. Buzz. The vehicle was presented at the Mitie headquarters in London and will be used by the National Maintenance Network team. Mitie’s mobile engineers will use the electric VW from Hanover to transport equipment or travel to the various sites in London. Mitie procured the VW Commercial Vehicles as part of a multi-million pound partnership between Mitie and National Grid (the UK’s electricity network operator), where Mitie provides facility management services at over 260 National Grid sites. The sites in London are also National Grid facilities.

“Reaching 5,000 EVs is testament to our unwavering drive and commitment to reaching a zero-emission fleet,” says Heidi Thompson, Group Fleet Manager at Mitie. “This landmark reflects how far we’ve come since our EV journey started in 2020, as one of only a handful of British businesses to achieve this success. We look forward to celebrating our next milestone in the near future as we gather momentum towards our 100% electric target.”
