The global leader in electric two-wheelers from China announced its new battery integration at the CES in Las Vegas. Yadea writes that its new sodium-ion batteries “offer enhanced safety, environmental friendliness, and longer lifespan,” compared to traditional lithium batteries. Yadea also asserts that it’s batteries have improved charging characteristics: “Benefit of the HuaYu Sodium Superfast Charging Ecosystem, users can charge the battery to 80% in just 15 minutes.”

In addition to being made from more readily available resources, Yadea also highlights the testing that went into the battery: The Chinese company conducted “more than 20 rigorous safety tests, ensuring it remains fire- and explosion-proof under extreme conditions such as puncture and compression, significantly improving overall safety.”

The new batteries feature an energy density of 145 Wh/kg and can reach a cycle life of up to 1,500 cycles at room temperature, ensuring durability for up to five years. Yadea is marketing the battery with a three-year warranty service. In terms of low-temperature performance, the battery is capable of maintaining a discharge retention rate of over 92% at -20°C. A range of about 70 kilometres is expected from the battery once integrated.

Battery swapping is also a part of the Yadea battery ecosystem, for which the company also announced a new subsidiary ‘Huayu JiNa Supercharging Ecosystem,’ which will focus on sodium-ion battery development. The company will be using ‘supercharging’ stations, which are also capable of diagnosing the status of a battery and locking in damaged batteries. The company did not announce how this would affect its ongoing battery-swap network partnership with Gogoro. In 2021, the two companies even teamed up with DCJ to launch a brand called Huan Huan.
