Tesla is now producing the revised Model Y in all four factories

Three weeks after unveiling the redesigned Model Y, which was codenamed Juniper, Tesla has announced that production of the vehicle has started at all four of its car factories.

Tesla unveiled the revised Model Y on 10 January on its website in Asia, where orders were possible from that date onwards. Two weeks later, the carmaker opened the order books in Europe and North America. The first deliveries across all markets are scheduled for March. What is particularly striking about Juniper in contrast to its predecessor is the extremely narrow headlight units and a continuous LED light strip at the front. Technically, however, Juniper is not a revolution; for example, it retains the 400-volt architecture.

The Model Y Juniper is now manufactured in Tesla’s four automotive factories in Grünheide near Berlin, Shanghai, Texas and California. The company does not reveal exactly when production in the four factories started. The social media post from 31 January only states that production has “now started” and “simultaneously” in all four factories. The Tesla plant in Grünheide, Germany, confirmed that it had started production on 14 January. It is thus possible that the facelifted model has been rolling off Tesla’s production lines since then.

Most of the Model Y Juniper vehicles are to be built in Giga Shanghai, as the factory there is by far the largest Tesla factory with an annual capacity of over 950,000 Model 3 & Y vehicles. The Fremont plant (100,000 Model S/X and over 550,000 Model 3/Y) and Giga Berlin (over 375,000 Model Y) follow at a considerable distance, on a par with Giga Texas – where production capacity is split between 250,000 Model Ys and 125,000 Cybertrucks.
