Tesla will manufacture battery cells in Brandenburg

After a number of contradictory reports on the question of whether Tesla will also manufacture battery cells in its planned factory in Grünheide, just outside of Berlin, it is now clear: Tesla will indeed be making batteries in their German location but have not revealed when this will be.

Tesla allowed to lay foundation for Giga Berlin

Tesla has received the green light from the German authorities to start building the foundations for the planned plant in Grünheide – even though the rest of the environmental permit is still pending. This was announced by the Environment Ministry of the German state of Brandenburg.

Glencore to supply Tesla with Cobalt

Glencore is apparently going to supply Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai and the planned plant in Brandenburg with cobalt from the Congo. A recent article in the Financial Times already mentions concrete quantities to be delivered to Tesla.

Now that Tesla received approval for foundation work from the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment, the work has now apparently begun in the usual rapid Tesla-tempo. A new drone video shows the first excavation works.

Giga-Berlin construction forges ahead despite pandemic

The cleared forest area for Tesla’s planned Giga-Berlin factory in Grünheide, Germany, has now been almost completely levelled. According to a local news outlet, Brandenburg’s State Environmental Agency now wants to allow the foundations to be built in advance, despite 373 objections to the project.

European Model 3 almost sold out for the quarter

The Tesla Model 3 is apparently almost sold out in Europe for this quarter. As of this week, Tesla has indicated that May will be the expected delivery date for the Model 3 in almost all European countries. The company previously forecast delivery in March.

Tesla must yet again cope with the departure of a manager. Bert Bruggeman was only appointed Vice-President of Production at Fremont plant one year ago and has now thrown in the towel. Given his unexpected departure, a successor has not yet been announced.

Tesla has founded a European public limited company called Tesla Manufacturing Brandenburg SE for the operations of its planned plant in Grünheide, Brandenburg. Meanwhile, in China, rumour has it that Tesla already produces 1,000 Model 3s per week at its plant in Shanghai.
