UE Studios unveils autonomous electric shuttle named SUE

The service provider Uedelhoven Studios, also known as UE Studios, specializing in show cars and prototype construction, has unveiled a new electric shuttle. SUE is an autonomous people mover designed for public transport use, developed by a consortium of ten partners.

SUE (short for “Self-Driving Urban E-Shuttle”) is a vehicle built on a road-legal 48-volt skateboard platform. As UE Studios emphasises, it was “entirely developed in Germany” and is designed to address mobility gaps where existing solutions fall short. The vehicle was unveiled this week by those responsible for the project.

As the initiator, project leader, and vehicle manufacturer, UE Studios in Gaimersheim oversaw the development, design, and production of the prototype, which was specifically designed for autonomous operation. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary consortium of industry, research, and public sector partners, including DB Regio, ElringKlinger, TÜV Nord Mobilität, Fraunhofer EMFT, as well as universities and municipal partners, a vehicle has been created that, as UE Studios puts it, “is not just a vision but a concrete solution for public transport.” The project was funded by the German Federal Government.

Technical specifications have not yet been disclosed in detail. So far, only the 48-volt skateboard platform and a top speed of 50 km/h have been confirmed. SUE is therefore a low-voltage vehicle, not a high-voltage one. Inside, the people mover stands out with its well-designed sightlines and high-quality, sustainable materials. The project team also highlights that the skateboard chassis can support other body structures, making it a potential foundation for additional vehicle concepts.

“We developed and designed SUE from the ground up to give the mobility of tomorrow a face,” emphasises Alexander Uedelhoven, Project Leader and Authorised Officer at UE Studios. “It is our contribution to autonomous and sustainable mobility, focusing consistently on the needs of users, municipalities, and operators. This makes SUE a benefit for citizens and communities—and thus for all of us.”

Thanks to its road approval and an exemption for autonomous test operations, the shuttle is already being trialled on public roads. One planned test route, for example, runs between Neustadt an der Donau and Bad Gögging.
