Polestar plans four models in three years
By 2028, Polestar plans to introduce four new models: the first deliveries of the Polestar 5 are scheduled for summer 2026. A new variant of the Polestar 4 is expected to follow in the fourth quarter of 2026. For 2027, the company will launch the next generation of the Polestar 2, and in 2028, the Polestar 7 will make its market debut.
Let’s examine each model in detail. The Polestar 5 is the brand’s long-awaited Gran Turismo, a sleek saloon with coupé-like lines. The Precept concept, which previewed the production model’s design almost in its entirety, was unveiled as early as spring 2020. Since then, further details about the model have been released gradually, including information about its bodywork technology and battery technology from SK On. At IAA Mobility in September 2025, Polestar finally presented the production version and opened the order books. The dual-motor model is available in Germany from €119,900, while the Performance variant starts at €142,900. The first units are expected to reach customers in summer 2026.
A ‘new variant of Polestar 4‘ is also set to debut later this year. This is likely not another battery or powertrain variant but an entirely new body style. Polestar’s announcement image shows the Polestar 4 from the rear, cropped just above the taillights. The company says it is ‘targeting a wider customer base by offering more versatility.’ This suggests an estate version of the saloon. Given the Polestar 4’s unique concept, which lacks a rear window and features a relatively small boot opening, its practicality has remained limited for many potential buyers—the estate version is expected to address this. Numerous spy photos and alleged leaks are already circulating online, but caution is advised in the age of deceptively realistic AI-generated images. While the estate version is confirmed, its exact design remains under wraps. “Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class,” said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. “We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar.”

While Polestar has previously discussed the Polestar 7 as a compact premium SUV (more on that below), another model is new to the list: the next generation of the Polestar 2. The mid-size saloon was the brand’s first all-electric vehicle and its first volume model, following the plug-in hybrid coupé Polestar 1. It has long been regarded as the only serious alternative to the Tesla Model 3. Polestar is now announcing a ‘completely new successor,’ set to debut in early 2027. The company has not yet provided details on the technology or platform, but the Geely Group’s PMA2+ platform is a likely candidate. The electric estate Zeekr 7GT could offer clues about the technology—though this remains speculative. So far, it is only clear that the front end will feature the signature lighting design seen on the Polestar 4 and 5. “The car that we became known for will play a key role of our future success,” said Lohscheller.
The Polestar 7 also features the brand’s distinctive front end with its characteristic double headlights. It has been known since last year that this model will be built in Europe, not at Geely in China. In July, Polestar signed a letter of intent with Volvo Cars to produce the Polestar 7 in Košice, Slovakia. While Volvo has not yet confirmed which model the Swedes will manufacture at the under-construction electric vehicle plant, the Polestar 7 is expected to deliver the brand’s typical design and performance features while sharing a common technology platform with two upcoming Volvo models, including the Volvo EX60. Since the new EX60 will be built in Gothenburg, the Volvo model produced in Slovakia could be the electric estate EV60 or the next generation of the EX40, both of which will use the EX60’s SPA3 platform. On the sidelines of the EX60’s world premiere in January, Volvo’s top management confirmed both models to electrive—but did not specify the production locations. As the Polestar 7 is set to be a compact SUV, the EX40 would be the logical partner, while the EV60 is likely to be produced alongside the EX60 in Sweden.
At the same time, Polestar has announced that, based on a conservative forecast for 2026, it expects low double-digit sales growth and a 30 per cent expansion of its distribution network. “Following our best sales year ever, we are now launching the largest model offensive in our history, with four premium EVs coming to market within three years,” said Lohscheller. “We are targeting the heart of the EV market, where customer demand and profit pools are high. Combined with our continued retail sales network expansion and a growing customer base, we are setting the foundations for profitable growth and operational improvement.”
