Opel confirms battery-electric Corsa GSE
Opel has not yet revealed further details about the Corsa GSE. However, the company states: “Like the Mokka GSE, the new Corsa GSE will also be based on the current model generation. Germany’s most popular small car for five years in a row will feature electrifying design details in its very special GSE way, making it stand out from the crowd,” according to the announcement from Rüsselsheim. “And, of course, it will also deliver on this claim with thrilling, locally emissions-free performance on the road.”
For the announcement, Opel has only released a teaser image of a wheel in the brand’s signature colour scheme for its sporty models—black, white, and yellow. The yellow brake caliper and door sill feature GSE lettering, while the Corsa logo appears on the wheel itself. As Opel confirms that the Corsa GSE will be based on the “current model generation,” it is unlikely to deviate from the familiar corporate technology used in other Stellantis models. The Mokka GSE, Peugeot e-208 GTI, Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, and Abarth 600e all use a 207 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, delivering 345 Newton metres of torque. The NMC battery has a gross capacity of 54 kWh (50.8 kWh net). The exact range figures and further modifications for the “unmatched GSE feeling,” as Opel describes it, will likely be revealed at the model’s premiere.
“Our Opel Corsa is an absolute bestseller. Small, agile and extremely practical, it stands for long-lasting success,” says Opel CEO Florian Huettl about the new sporty version. “The three letters ‘GSE’, on the other hand, stand for battery-electric high-performance and top dynamics. The new Corsa GSE combines both worlds. It is the new all-electric top-of-the-range version of our small car and will offer pure electric and thus locally emissions-free driving pleasure.”
