Toyota launches China-built bZ7 electric saloon
GAC-Toyota first previewed the bZ7 at the Auto China show in Shanghai in April 2025. While the initial unveiling focused primarily on design, the recent market launch has now revealed all other key details.
The bZ7 is the second model developed entirely in China, following the bZ3X. The bZ7 measures 5.13 metres in length, 1.965 metres in width and 1.51 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 3.02 metres.
Interestingly, the powertrain does not come from Toyota or GAC but from technology giant Huawei, which has been expanding into the automotive sector in recent years, including through its HIMA alliance.
Specifically, the bZ7 is equipped with the Huawei Drive ONE drivetrain system. This is an integrated platform that combines the electric motor, inverter and transmission into a single unit. The system delivers a power output of 207 kW and a top speed of 180 km/h. Additionally, the bZ7 features Huawei’s HarmonyOS 5.0 operating system for its intelligent cockpit.
The LFP batteries are supplied by CALB and are available in two sizes: the larger battery, with a capacity of 88.13 kWh, enables a CLTC range of up to 710 km, depending on the configuration, while the smaller 71.35 kWh battery offers a CLTC range of 600 km. The maximum charging power is rated at 128 kW.
The Toyota bZ7 also includes an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) from Chinese specialist Momenta, which uses 27 sensors and can be deployed in both urban and highway traffic. The premium version of the system adds a LiDAR sensor, enabling ‘Navigation on Autopilot’ (NOA) functionality.
The bZ7 is now available at Toyota dealerships across China, with customer deliveries already underway. Currently, GAC-Toyota is offering the vehicle at an introductory price of 147,800 yuan (approximately 18,400 euros), with the price list extending up to 199,800 yuan (approximately 24,900 euros). An export to Europe is considered unlikely.
