ABB to supply Azipod drive to Oceano for a super-yacht
ABB has scored the debut deal with Dutch luxury yacht builder Oceanco. They will use Azipod technology to supply propulsion to a superyacht. Both partners consider this the beginning of future projects in a market ABB estimates to exceed $10 billion by 2025.

Research project starts for electric ships in the EU

India to have the world’s largest electric ferry fleet
The world’s largest fleet of electric ferries is to go into operation in India. India’s largest shipyard, Cochin Shipyard, has now commissioned Siemens Energy to supply the drive and battery components for the first 23 of a total of 78 planned electric ferries.

European consortium to build 23 MW hydrogen ferry
A group of companies has applied to the European Union for funding to develop a large hydrogen ferry. The H2 ferry with the working title Europa Seaways is to have a fuel cell system with a capacity of up to 23 MW on board.

Oxis and YdL to integrate Li-S battery in luxury yacht

ABB provides Azipod drives for five italian cruise ships
ABB has secured a contract worth around 150 million US dollars to supply the complete power and drive package for cruise ships built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The electric drives will still be powered by diesel engines, but are said to reduce fuel consumption by 20%.

XALT to supply batteries for English Channel ferries

UK’s first electric sea-going ferry launches for testing
Plymouth Boat Trips and Voyager Marine have launched the UK’s first sea-going electric ferry, named e-Voyager. The electric ferry was developed in partnership with the University of Plymouth, the University of Exeter, Teignbridge Propellers, MarRI-UK and EV Parts. Testing is now underway.

Danfoss to fit hybrid drives on exploration vessels
Danfoss Editron has received an order from the Norwegian shipyard Grovfjord Mekaniske Verksted (GMV) to supply hybrid propulsion systems for a fleet of unmanned exploration vessels. Four of the vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2021, with seven more to follow in the following months.

Brødrene Aa developing a 23 knot electric ferry
In Norway, a 42-meter-long, all-electric ferry for 297 passengers will soon go into operation. The Rygerelektra, built by the Norwegian shipbuilder Brødrene Aa, will be used by ferry operator Rødne Fjord Cruise as a sightseeing ship in the coastal town of Stavanger in the south of Norway.

Water Witch switches workboats to Torqeedo drives
The Liverpool-based boat builder Water Witch has announced that it will replace its existing outboard motors with electric drives from Torqeedo. The company has been building specialized cleaning boats for over 50 years and uses around 200 workboats to remove waste and refuse in harbours and waterways around the world.

Havyard presents electric sightseeing boat concept
