Xing Mobility presents electric drive for boats
Xing Mobility, a Taiwanese supplier of electric vehicle technologies, has introduced a modular e-drive for maritime applications. This includes the Immersio modular battery system with immersion cooling, which is suitable for use in boats and passenger ferries.
Atlantic Offshore to convert two hybrid ships
Wärtsilä will convert two supply vessels of the Norwegian operator Atlantic Offshore to hybrid propulsion. The Finnish technology group is developing and supplying battery packages for this purpose, which are to be installed in the Ocean Star and the Ocean Art by the beginning of 2020.
Danfoss systems for workboats on Beijing reservoir
Danfoss Editron has just supplied the electrical propulsion systems for two workboats to be used on the Miyun Reservoir near Beijing. Both ships are purely electric, although one has a diesel generator for the emergency power supply onboard in addition to the Danfoss Editron electric drive.
Denmark’s super ferry Ellen takes to the sea
The electric ship Ellen is to ferries what a supercar is to series production. Yet, the vessel is made for real-life application and now launched on its maiden journey. Full commercial operation will run between the islands of Aerø and Als in southern Denmark.

Torqeedo is supporting climate activist Greta Thunberg on her zero-carbon travels to the upcoming UN climate summits in New York and Chile. The 16-year-old Swedish activist is on board the Malizia II, a racing yacht. Torqueedo adds its electric port and harbour vessels.
Danfoss drive used in Sweden’s biggest hybrid ferry
Danfoss Editron supplied the electric drive system for Sweden’s largest hybrid car ferry to date. The ferry is now about to go into operation. The 100-metre Tellus ferry can carry 80 cars and 297 passengers per tour and will operate with a battery capacity of 949 kWh mainly in fully electric mode.
H2SHIPS project tests hydrogen shipping
The H2SHIPS project aims to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of hydrogen refuelling systems and propulsion systems in shipping and to identify the conditions for a successful market entry of hydrogen technology.
Hybrid tugboat launched in the port of Luleå
The first ship has gone into operation using the hybrid system HY from the Finnish technology group Wärtsilä. The tug that escorts ships in the Swedish port of Luleå has been equipped with the fully integrated hybrid power module Wärtsilä HY, which includes motors, a battery system and power electronics.
Ballard & ABB developing FC tugboat
Ballard Power Systems announced its collaboration with ABB and other consortium partners in the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) project Flagships. The aim is to develop a fuel cell powered tug boat for inland waterway vessels.
