Blue Bird electric school buses now fully certified

US bus maker Blue Bird has received all required certifications for its electric school buses which are now in pre-production. The company also opened the order books and their EVs qualify for grants available in California and New York respectively.

BMW & Apple, Continental, Aston Martin, VW, EDI, Seat.

BMW i3 to become the iCar? The Bavarians are talking to Apple about a possible cooperation, German Auto Motor und Sport reports. Apparently, the i3 could become the Apple EV, or both companies could develop a new car altogether. However, BMW was quick to deny any plans of jointly developing an EV with the IT giant but does confirms that a dialogue is indeed on-going.

Conti to court Apple: Meanwhile, automotive supplier Continental has expressed its interest in becoming a partner in the iCar project. Conti would be interested in acting as partner for Apple if the company decides to build a car, CEO Elmar Degenhart said.

Aston Martin EV to get serious: As reported, the Brits brought the electric DBX Concept to Geneva. Now it looks like it is much more than a show car as Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer told Automobil Produktion that the electric Crossover might hit the market as early as 2018.

Class 3 PHEV truck: Efficient Drivetrains (EDI) now offers a plug-in hybrid system for utility trucks. The system offers an all-electric range of up to 40 miles. The battery is further said to hold enough energy to operate work tools on-site or to act as power source in an emergency.

Busy Akasol: The battery manufacturer just sealed a deal with the British bus builder Alexander Dennis London (ADL) to supply Li-ion batteries for London’s plug-in double deckers. The battery packs consist of 30 modules, which allow for a charging power of up to 170 kW and can store 61.2 kWh of energy. Just recently, Akasol had delivered battery systems to Bombardier to be deployed in four bendy buses by Solaris that will serve in the German city of Brunswick (we reported).

Porsche 918 Spyder on fire: One of the 918 hybrid super cars in existence has caught fire at a gas station in Toronto, Canada. What has caused the fire is not clear yet but witnesses speak of overflowing fuel, which might have been ignited by the hot exhaust system.

Greenkraft-TruckPlug-in gas truck: Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI) and Greenkraft announced they will work together on a plug-in hybrid CNG powertrain for medium-duty trucks. Meanwhile, the California Energy Commission awarded EDI 900,000 dollars in funding to support the development of the parallel-series multi-mode truck.
