Flanders considers banning combustion vehicles from 2035
From 2031, diesel cars will no longer be allowed to enter the environmental zones of the Flemish cities of Antwerp and Ghent, and from 2035 no petrol cars will be allowed either. This means that the tightening of the environmental zones there will be somewhat weaker than announced a year ago.

Volvo Group to build truck battery modules in Ghent
The Volvo Group has announced plans to build a battery module production facility at its truck plant in Ghent, Belgium. This is scheduled to go into operation in 2025 and will cost around 75 million euros in the first stage.

Volvo announces plans for another European plant

Volvo targets 60% EV production in Ghent by 2022
Volvo Cars is tripling the production capacity for electric cars at its plant in Ghent, Belgium. By 2022, electric cars are to account for around 60 per cent of total production capacity there. Among other things, a purely electric version and the PHEV versions of the Volvo XC40 have been produced in Ghent so far.

City of Ghent promotes charging infrastructure

Volvo launches battery assembly in Ghent
Volvo Cars has inaugurated a battery assembly line at its Belgian production site in Ghent. Batteries for the XC40 Recharge P8 will start rolling off assembly lines at the Ghent plant from March, while the production of the first electric Volvo is also scheduled to start in Ghent in the autumn.

Belgium: Electric buses coming to Ghent and Leuven
VDL Bus & Coach has received an order from Flanders. Transport operator De Lijn wants to buy 146 buses in total, among them a large batch of hybrid models and some all-electric ones to arrive early next year. The buses will serve on routes in Ghent and Leuven.

Lynk & Co present model 02 and preview 03 for China
The Geely brand Lynk & Co has revealed the design for their second model 02 in Amsterdam. The crossover SUV will be available in Europe as a PHEV as of 2020, and a purely electric version is to follow. Production will be set in Belgium.
