Volvo Trucks opens battery factory in Belgium
Swedish truck manufacturer Volvo Trucks has opened its first battery assembly plant in Ghent, Belgium. There, cells and modules from Samsung SDI are assembled into customised battery packs for the FH, FM and FMX heavy-duty electric truck series.
Volvo announces plans for another European plant
Volvo Cars is planning a significant expansion of its production capacities and intends to build another plant in Europe in the medium term. Initially, production capacity at the existing European plants in Torslanda near Gothenburg and Ghent in Belgium is to increase to 1.2 million vehicles.
Volvo targets 60% EV production in Ghent by 2022
Volvo Cars is tripling the production capacity for electric cars at its plant in Ghent, Belgium. By 2022, electric cars are to account for around 60 per cent of total production capacity there. Among other things, a purely electric version and the PHEV versions of the Volvo XC40 have been produced in Ghent so far.
City of Ghent promotes charging infrastructure
The Belgian town of Ghent is increasing its public charging infrastructure and published plans to install another 100 charge points by 2022. They will join the existing networks that are to reach 300 charging stations at the time.
Volvo launches battery assembly in Ghent
Volvo Cars has inaugurated a battery assembly line at its Belgian production site in Ghent. Batteries for the XC40 Recharge P8 will start rolling off assembly lines at the Ghent plant from March, while the production of the first electric Volvo is also scheduled to start in Ghent in the autumn.
Belgium: Electric buses coming to Ghent and Leuven
VDL Bus & Coach has received an order from Flanders. Transport operator De Lijn wants to buy 146 buses in total, among them a large batch of hybrid models and some all-electric ones to arrive early next year. The buses will serve on routes in Ghent and Leuven.
