‘IntelLiGent’ research project takes on sustainable battery cells

Elinor Batteries to make LFP batteries in Norway
The Norwegian investment company Valinor founded Elinor Batteries with plans to build a gigawatt-scale factory for LFP batteries in central Norway. The cells are to be purposed for stationary storage for EV charging and marine applications, among other things.

EU project Nextcell to develop batteries with gel inside
The Nextcell project, funded by the EU with €8 mn, aims to develop a new generation of high-performance lithium-ion battery cells. Led by FEV, 17 partners from ten EU countries seek to establish “gellified battery cells” in what sounds like an approach to semi-solid state cells.

Gigagreen consortium designs future battery cell factories

DLR & SINTEF research cobalt-free electrodes
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Norway’s SINTEF institute are researching cobalt-free lithium-ion batteries in the EU project HYDRA together with ten partners. They want to test an industry-ready prototype for real-world operation in a ship battery system.

Havyard presents electric sightseeing boat concept
The Norwegian shipbuilder Havyard has presented a design concept for electrically powered sightseeing ships for use in cities and fjords. The concept was developed within the framework of a cooperation agreement concluded last year with the Norwegian research organisation SINTEF.

Norway will become home to 32 GWh battery cell plant
The newly founded Norwegian company Morrow Batteries plans to build a battery cell factory for electric cars. In the final stage of expansion, the factory will have a capacity of 32 GWh. The first of the four planned expansion stages, each with 8 GWh, should be completed in 2024.

ABB & SINTEF to scale up fuel cells as main ship drive
