Stadler first to bring a battery-electric train to the US
Swiss trainmaker Stadler will bring the first battery-electric train to the USA. The company announces signing a development contract with Utah State University (USU) and the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center. Tests will be based on the ‘Flirt Akku’ train model.

Stadler orders Ballard H2 fuel cell systems for US trains
Ballard Power Systems has received an order from Stadler Rail to supply six 100 kW Fcmove-HD+ fuel cell modules to power the first hydrogen train in the US. The train is expected to enter service in San Bernardino, California, in 2024 and will seat over 100 passengers.

Stadler orders train components from ABB
ABB has received orders worth around €70 million from Stadler for traction technologies and battery systems for commuter trains. The orders also include traction equipment for new locomotives sold by Stadler in Spain.

German rail operator DB Regio orders 44 BEV trains
DB Regio has ordered 44 battery-electric multiple units of the type ‘Flirt Akku’ from Stadler for use in the Pfalz network. From December 2025, the first of the 44 multiple units are to go into passenger service on eight routes and replace the diesel trains currently in use by the end of 2026.

ABB equips electric trains by Stadler in Germany
ABB has become the partner of choice for Stadler Germany, a train maker currently working to deliver battery-electric trains for regional and underground trains in Schleswig Holstein and Berlin. ABB will deliver traction converters and battery system to recharge electric locomotives running through the coastal state and on the underground in the German capital.

ABB to supply electric train tech to Stadler

Germany: 55 Stadler Flirt Akku to replace diesel trains
In North Germany, the Schleswig-Holstein public transport association has commissioned the Swiss rail manufacturer Stadler to supply 55 battery-electric trains. The Stadler Flirt Akku units will replace 55 diesel trains in the coastal German state from December 2022.
