Island solution: Diesel may be scrapped in London, where Mayor Sadiq Khan called on the government to implement a 515m pound programme. His proposal includes 3,500 GBP each for up to 70,000 van and minibuses as well as a 2,000 pound credit scheme to help low-income families scrap up to 130,000 cars. 1,000 GBP would go towards scrapping the oldest taxis. The British government said it would update its air quality plans soon but did not give specifics. Khan has lobbied to clean up London’s act and looks to expand the city’s congestion zone since his election (also see our series).
