Audi and Porsche to utilize common PPE from 2021

The German VW subsidies are jointly developing a Premium Platform Electric (PPE), an architecture for electric-powered high-class cars. According to Automobil Produktion first models based on the new platform shall hit the roads from 2021.

The PPE is to some extent the luxury version of the group’s MEB platform. In its report, Automobil Produktion is not just mentioning a year seeing the production kick-off based on the new platform but also which models could be the first to enjoy a PPE update. That are Audi’s Q5 and Porsche’s Macan. All in all, the PPE shall be utilized for three upcoming model families – two for Audi and one for Porsche.

Porsche’s Mission E and Audi’s two upcoming EVs were still developed separately. In Porsche’s J1 platform the battery has a quite low position. Just recently, Bentley head Wolfgang Dürheimer announced that they plan an electric sports car that will be based on Porsche’s J1 platform. Meanwhile, Audi utilized its C-BEV architecture that works very well with SUVs, e.g. in its e-tron quattro that is due next year. automobil-produktion.de (in German)
