With the completion of the fuel cell system development for the Mercedes GLC F-Cell, the Daimler subsidiary NuCellSys will receive a new name for the upcoming development projects: Effective immediately, the company will operate under the name Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH.

In the subsidiary NuCellSys, the group has bundled development activities for fuel cell technology. Among other things, this company developed the complete fuel cell unit and the hydrogen storage system of the GLC F-Cell.

Now that the development of the GLC F-Cell has been completed, a new project is on the agenda: In the coming years, fuel cell technology will also electrify the Mercedes-Benz Citaro city bus. Several dozen Citaro FuelCell hybrid city buses have already been tested in public service in the past. Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell intends to further develop the fuel cell system so that it can be flexibly integrated into the Group-wide electric module construction kit, in order to use the technology in other automotive segments and large volumes in the future.

“Fuel cell technology is an integral part of our drive strategy,” says Professor Christian Mohrdieck, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell GmbH and thus responsible for fuel cell drive development at Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz Fuel Cell is responsible, among other things, for system concepts and development, component and software development as well as testing and validation. In addition, the company develops all components for 700 bar hydrogen storage.
