Toyota and Suzuki have agreed to expand their cooperation to include electrified vehicles. Toyota will supply its hybrid drives to Suzuki worldwide in the future.

The cooperation also includes the delivery of two new electrified vehicles based on the Toyota platforms RAV4 and Corolla to Suzuki in Europe. It was also agreed to jointly distribute hybrid vehicle technologies in India through local procurement of HEV systems, engines and batteries.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda said: “When it comes to vehicle electrification, which is expected to make further inroads, hybrid technologies are seen as playing a huge role in many markets. “[…] we appreciate the kind offer from Toyota to let us make use of their hybrid technology. We will continue our utmost efforts,” adds Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki.

Suzuki followed other Japanese carmakers last year in withdrawing from selling diesel vehicles in India. Electrification, however, has so far remained a gap in the manufacturer’s line-up.
