Volkswagen has made decisive steps towards emission reduction lately but what has electric car making got to do with the energy business? In strategic terms, “the target for an emission-free fleet in 2050 sets the pace for Volkswagen,” says Roemheld.

The new division stands for the Electric Life, which for VW means the integration of renewable energy with electric mobility, in short, smart charging solutions and grid integration among other things. How exactly such a future could look like at Volkswagen and why “the change of the mobility system and the change of the energy system belong together despite regulatory hurdles”, Martin Roemheld reveals in a conversation during the latest electrive interview series filmed live at the Revolution conference in Amsterdam.
