A number of charging infrastructure providers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding announcing that they will open their charging networks in the UK by the end of 2019 as part of a roaming partnership. A similar agreement has also been signed for Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

The agreement means that electric car drivers in these countries will only need a single subscription to gain access to public charging stations.

The initiators in the UK are Allego, EVBox and NewMotion. Other signatories of the Letter of Intent are Chargemap, ChargePoint, Charge4Europe, Engenie, Franklin Energy and Travelcard. In the Scandinavian countries the partners include Allego, EVBox, NewMotion, Chargemap, ChargePoint and Charge4Europe. In addition to easy access via a single subscription, the operators also want to exchange data with each other. The aim is to improve the loading experience for customers.

The agreements between the operators of charging stations are based on the Open Charge Point Interface, a standardized and open source protocol. The initiators of this letter of intent are also open to other charging station operators and mobility service providers who wish to join this initiative.
