EVR partners with EKA for commercial EVs in India

Israeli startup EVR Motors has partnered with India’s EKA Mobility to design small, lightweight electric motors for their e-buses and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) in India.

The new commercial agreement stipulates that EVR will design and develop electric motors for EKA based on EVR’s proprietary Trapezoidal Stator Radial Flux Permanent Magnet (TS-RFPM) motor that the company revealed last year. The Israeli company will also support the setup of EKA’s assembly line in India, where EKA will manufacture these e-motors and integrate them into the vehicles it provides for the Indian market.

EKA Chairperson Dr Sudhir Mehta said: “At EKA, we are reinventing the design philosophy and manufacturing of electric vehicles. We are also developing sharable technologies to democratize EVs with best-in-class TCO (total cost of ownership) solutions, and sustainable ecosystems.” Mehta revealed that the commercial agreement with the Israeli company is part of the EKA approach of building a new international community involved in commercial electric vehicles for mass adoption. “We are confident that EVR’s breakthrough technology will push us further to achieve our vision to make EVs more viable, efficient, and reliable,” he explained.

The Indian electric vehicle manufacturer recently launched its 9-meter electric bus, which was completely designed and manufactured in India. The electric bus has already received the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and the company says that the first batch of these electric will soon be deployed on roads.

EKA Mobility says it also plans to launch a range of light commercial vehicles. The company claims that these will enable a 50% reduction in the total cost of ownership compared to existing diesel-engine buses and other commercial vehicles, saying that this will be a game-changer in the last-mile delivery vehicle segment.

EKA is a new company, so far with only the upcoming electric bus on its website. EKA Chairperson EKA Chairperson Dr Sudhir Mehta is also chair and managing director of Pinnacle Industries, an automotive products and speciality vehicles company. The company’s executive director, Hirdesh Thakur already founded an electric two-wheelers company and lithium-Ion battery pack factory.

On the EKA website, it says that Pinnacle Industries has collaborated with the Dutch conglomerate VDL Group to establish EKA by Pinnacle Mobility Solutions. EKA says it is one of the 20 applicants approved under the Central Government’s Automotive PLI scheme to boost domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technology products.
