New Vitesco plant for power electronics to be built in the Czech Republic
Vitesco Technologies assumes that the new Czech factory will be built on 38,000 square meters of factory space and will go online at the end of 2024. The silicon carbide semiconductors for this will come from Onsemi. Vitesco concluded a long-term supply agreement with the US chip manufacturer last year. This is valid for ten years and is worth 1.75 billion euros.
Lukáš Rosůlek, Head of Vitesco Technologies Czech Republic, emphasizes the importance of the products that will soon be rolling off the production line in Ostrava: “This advanced power electronics system, which combines an inverter, onboard charger, rapid charging module, and energy distribution unit, symbolizes the shift in vehicle design away from traditional combustion engines towards electric models. This product, solely developed and designed for electric vehicles, exemplifies our commitment to innovation.”
Vitesco Technologies will initially employ 150 people in Ostrava and aims to increase this number to over 1,000 by 2027. A further 300 jobs are to be created by a research and development centre on-site. The investment of 188 million euros in the plant in Ostrava is part of a broader investment strategy by the company, which plans to invest more than 576 million euros in promoting sustainable mobility in the Czech Republic by 2027.
