The announcement came from Hyundai in cooperation with its subsidiary Glovis America, which provides logistics operations for the operation, or as Glovis itself writes; “Glovis America manages project cargoes and project freight logistics involving oversized, heavy-lift or dangerous goods in various amounts and types.”

When in operation, the new Xcient hydrogen fuel-cell Class 8 heavy-duty trucks will transport vehicle parts from HMGMA suppliers across the region to the factory in Georgia. Hyundai further specifies that the 21 Xcient trucks will represent more than one-third of the Glovis America truck fleet at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA). When the Xcient fuel cell truck was introduced to the US market, it was revealed to be running on two 90 kW hydrogen fuel cell systems (total 180 kW power) and a 350 kW electric motor, allowing for over 450 miles of range.

To fuel the trucks, a mobile hydrogen refuelling station will be set up at the Megasite in Georgia, which is also planned to eventually see a more permanent hydrogen production and refueling station, however, this “is being developed for the Megasite and will be announced at a later date.”

“At HMGMA, we are committed to creating sustainable transportation solutions,” said Oscar Kwon, HMGMA CEO. “Our Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel-cell trucks that support the Metaplant release zero emissions and offer a cleaner alternative to the traditional freight logistics methods used at other manufacturing facilities.”
