VW Group increases electric car deliveries by a third in Q3

The Volkswagen Group delivered a total of 252,100 electric cars worldwide across all brands in the third quarter of 2025. This represents an increase of 33.1 per cent. Cumulatively over the first nine months of the year, the increase was even stronger: sales rose by 41.7 per cent to 717,500 electric vehicles.

The development of electric cars in the VW Group continues to be positive this year, but growth slowed in the third quarter: In the first quarter of 2025, the increase stood at 59 per cent, and in the second quarter there was still growth of 37.6 per cent compared to the same period last year, resulting in a total increase of 47 per cent to 465,500 electric car deliveries in the first half of 2025.

In terms of regions, growth in the third quarter was led in percentage terms by the United States, where electric car sales grew by 213.5 per cent from 11,900 to 37,400 units. In absolute terms, however, business in Europe grew even more significantly – from 109,200 to 174,700 BEV units (+60 per cent). The Group’s electric car business in China continues to decline, falling from 57,500 to 25,800 units (-55.2 per cent). However, the Volkswagen Group currently appears to be launching an electric car offensive in China: its premium subsidiary Audi has now launched the new AUDI E5 Sportback in collaboration with its local partner SAIC. The figures for the launch of the model, which is exclusively available in the People’s Republic, look promising. The VW subsidiary Jetta also plans to launch new models soon.

Across all drive types and brands, the VW Group delivered 2,198,800 vehicles in the third quarter – the 252,100 BEVs thus represent an electric car share of 11.5 per cent. Looking at the first nine months as a whole, this figure was 10.9 per cent (717,500 BEVs out of a total of 6.6 million vehicles). The Group also states that it has delivered 299,000 plug-in hybrids since the beginning of the year.

“Our all-electric models are a key driver of this positive development. By the end of September, we have delivered around 80 percent more of these models in Europe than in the same period last year, and worldwide we were up around 40 percent. However, the first nine months also show one thing very clearly: in order to succeed in this challenging market environment, we must continue to focus all our efforts on implementing our group-wide product offensive and ongoing performance programs,” says Marco Schubert, Member of the Extended Group Management Board for Sales.

It is interesting to see which electric cars are currently the best sellers within the group. Although VW does not provide figures for the past quarter, it does provide figures for the first nine months of the year. The top 10 are:

  • Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5 with 128,900 units
  • Volkswagen ID.3 with 88,800 units
  • Audi Q4 e-tron (including Sportback) with 65,700 units
  • Audi Q6 e-tron (including Sportback) with 63,800 units
  • Škoda Elroq with 60,400 units
  • Škoda Enyaq (including Coupé) with 58,100 units
  • Volkswagen ID.7 (including Tourer) with 55,500 units
  • Volkswagen ID. Buzz (including Cargo) with 42,900 units
  • Porsche Macan with 36,300 units
  • Cupra Born with 32,900 units

It is clear that the smaller Škoda Elroq electric SUV, which has only been in series production since January, has already overtaken its bigger brother, the Škoda Enyaq, in terms of units delivered. The Audi Q6 e-tron, which was unveiled last year, has also gained momentum: after the first six months of the year, it was still in sixth place in this ranking, but now it is in fourth place.

As mentioned, the model ranking refers to the last nine months. At the same time, Volkswagen also cites the delivery figures for the individual brands for the past quarter. The core VW brand leads the way in electric cars with 95,100 units, which is 7.4 per cent weaker than in the same quarter last year. Audi follows with 62,000 BEVs (+58.6 per cent). Škoda has grown even more strongly with 45,600 electric cars (+113.8 per cent). Seat/Cupra sold 19,800 BEVs (+53.7 per cent), Porsche sold 14,700 electric cars (+98.2 per cent), and VW Commercial Vehicles sold 14,100 units (+162.1 per cent).

Finally, let’s take a look at commercial vehicles: The Trucks brand group under the umbrella of the Traton Group increased its electric vehicle sales by 54.9 per cent to 800 units. One notable example is MAN’s eTruck series, launched at the end of 2024 – the Munich-based company increased its electric vehicle sales by 95.9 per cent to 290 units. Scania doubled its sales from 80 to 160 units, while the US brand International (formerly Navistar) grew by 26.3 per cent to 360 units. Volkswagen Truck & Bus, which only operates in South America, is treading water with 10 BEVs.
