Wolfspeed & ZF move ahead with European SiC factory

The US semiconductor manufacturer Wolfspeed has confirmed previously leaked plans to build a plant for SiC semiconductors in Saarland with local supplier ZF. The highly automated 200 mm wafer plant will be the company’s first “fab facility” in Europe and is expected to be the most modern of its kind.

IPCEI Hy2Tech: EU approves first hydrogen projects

The EU Commission has approved the first 41 Important Projects of Common European Interest within the IPCEI Hydrogen this week. Officially called IPCEI Hy2Tech, first-wave participants are working on hydrogen generation and logistics focusing on uses in electric transport.

Northvolt granted funding for German plant

Northvolt is to recieve European funding for its battery factory in Germany. In Berlin, the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck officially handed over notification of IPCEI funding (Important Projects of Common European Interest) to Northvolt.

Hytrucks to deploy 1000 H2 trucks by 2025

A consortium called HyTrucks has been formed by Hyzon Motors, Air Liquide and DATS 24 along with the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Duisburg. Hytrucks has pledged to deploy 1,000 H2 trucks and 25 H2 refuelling stations by 2025.

IPCEI to fund 12 European hydrogen mobility projects

The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Technology (BMWI) and the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (BMVI) have selected 62 major projects to receive government funding as part of a joint European hydrogen project (Hydrogen IPCEI). The BMVI is funding twelve projects in the mobility sector.

BMW aims for solid-state battery by 2030

BMW has announced its intention to realise a solid-state battery suitable for automotive use in series production by the end of this decade. A first demonstrator vehicle with this technology is to be shown “well before 2025”. Funding is available from German federal and state governments.

Germany invests in battery research with Varta

Varta has now received funding positive decisions from the Germany federal government and the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg concerning 300 million euros for projects involving battery cells. The subsidy was approved by the EU Commission in December 2019 and the decisions have now been sent to Varta.
