BYD rumoured to be interested in sodium-ion batteries
There are rumours in China that BYD wants to start mass production of sodium-ion batteries for electric cars. Local media report that BYD plans to manufacture them from the second quarter of 2023 and initially use them in some versions of the Qin EV, the Dolphin and the new Seagull model.

BYD presents new hybrid powertrain DM-i
BYD has unveiled a new plug-in hybrid powertrain called DM-i, which is expected to reduce fuel consumption to 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres. Three BYD models will initially be equipped with the DM-i hybrid system, which is now entering series production: The Qin, the Song and the Tang.

Nexport to build electric vehicles in Australia
The electric bus manufacturer Nexport has announced plans for the production of electric vehicles in a new plant in the Australian state of New South Wales. It will initially produce buses, but later also other types of vehicles such as cars, trucks and vans.

BYD Qin.
By its own account, BYD sold more than 6,000 Qins in China in the first months of 2014. With official figures yet to be released, China’s National Passenger Car Association says that if the selling trend really did continue to rise in March, the Qin could just be the country’s best selling EV to date.
