Île-de-France Mobilités, the entity responsible for organising public transport in the Paris metropolitan area, is awarding a contract to a consortium of Van Hool, Kiepe Electric and Alstom to build a fleet of 24-metre-long, all-electric, double-articulated buses.
Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool will deliver six 18-metre electric buses to the transport authority of the Italian city of Pescara from mid-2022, while three more could follow. The buses also feature technology from a German supplier.
Knorr-Bremse is pooling its expertise in electric transport with a new, in-house development unit called eCUBATOR. Up to 60 internal and external experts will work on electric commercial vehicle solutions at the Munich and Budapest sites.
The German supplier Kiepe Electric is supplying key components for new Solaris electric buses for use in the Italian cities of Milan and Modena. Milan’s public transport operator ATM has ordered 30 Solaris buses with electrical equipment from Düsseldorf.
Voltabox has received a new major order from Kiepe Electric to equip trolleybuses. It specifies 80 lithium-ion battery systems from the middle of this year. According to Voltabox, the order volume is in the mid-single-digit million range.
Kiepe Electric, a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse, is equipping an additional 15 electric buses in Dayton, Ohio with its in-motion charging technology IMC. It enables buses to charge through overhead lines while driving and to simply switch to battery power when driving in areas without powerlines.
Renault expects EV price parity: After Volkswagen and BMW, the French follow suit in their prediction of a drastic decrease in costs for electric vehicles thanks to better battery technology. Renault’s leading EV figure, Gilles Normand, said that the Zoe will reach price parity with small combustion-engined cars by the beginning of the next decade. Ford’s electrified cars may grow into a whole line-up of no less than 13 models by 2022, plans uncovered by Autocar suggest. Ford trademarked the Energi label for such electrified vehicles as the C-MAX in its plug-in hybrid version.
