Production kicks off for the Cadillac Lyriq
Cadillac has started series production of its first electric model Lyriq in the USA at GM’s Spring Hill assembly plant in the state of Tennessee. Currently, however, the electric SUV can no longer be ordered, as new orders will not be accepted until 19 May.

General Motors is planning two new electric commercial vehicles outside its BrightDrop brand. GM has now officially confirmed the previous rumour that two more battery factories are planned in the USA – without, however, giving any details.

Cadillac has presented the production version of the Lyriq electric SUV and at the same time announced its transformation to an electric car brand by the end of this decade. From now on, all newly introduced models will all be battery-electric vehicles.
GM accelerates EV development & raises investment
General Motors is increasing its spending, launching an “all-out pursuit of global EV leadership,” GM CEO Mary Barra announced. By 2025, the US carmaker wants to have 30 electric models and intends to raise investment from 20 to 27 billion US dollars.

General Motors is making its Spring Hill plant in the US state of Tennessee its third production facility for electric cars. The company plans to invest 2 billion US dollars in converting the plant. Among other models, the first electric Cadillac model Lyriq will be built in Spring Hill.

At an “EV Day” for investors, General Motors CEO Mary Barra presented an overview of the Group’s ambitious electric strategy. At the heart of the strategy is the third-generation new platform involving a modular battery system called Ultium. The platform should base the spectrum of electric vehicles from hatchbacks to pickups, SUVs and commercial vehicles.
