Germany’s chemical corporation BASF and French miner Eramet are finalising a $2.6 billion deal to process nickel in Indonesia, country officials said. The report comes amidst Indonesia wooing international industry to invest in its resources for use in EV batteries.

The mining group Eramet and the environmental services group Suez have presented plans to build a recycling factory for electric car batteries in France by 2024. Later, the material extracted there will also be processed on-site.

The Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine will in future use eleven electric trucks for waste collection in the municipality. Following the commissioning of their first Renault D Wide Z.E. in July 2020, Suez, the company responsible for waste collection, has now ordered ten more units of the electric truck.

Eramet, BASF and SUEZ are jointly promoting the ReLieVe (“Recycling of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles”) project. It aims to recycle batteries from electric vehicles and enable the production of new power packs in Europe.
