BYD presents upgraded 12 m electric bus
The 12-meter electric bus is BYD’s best-selling model. At the UITP in Stockholm, the Chinese manufacturer has now presented an updated version, which is to build on the sales success of its predecessor.
The core of the revised version is a completely new aluminium chassis. The electric bus is offered with two or three doors and with different interior configurations. Regardless of the number of doors, the maximum passenger capacity is 80 passengers in both cases.
Like its predecessor, the BYD electric bus is manufactured for most European markets in Komarom, Hungary. Only France has its own production facility in Beauvais for the local market. According to BYD, it has more than 700 electric buses on order or in operation in Europe, which corresponds to a market share of 20 percent of all electric buses on the continent.
BYD has celebrated several sales successes in Europe in recent weeks. For example, public transport operators in Madrid and Badajoz each ordered 15 electric buses, and Sweden also placed another major order for electric articulated buses. In Messina, Sicily, 16 electric buses were delivered at the beginning of the month.
