Volkswagen will start selling its wall box for the ID.3 in November. The ID. Charger offers a charging capacity of up to 11 kW and is provided at an introductory price starting at 399 Euro.

For this price VW offers a wall box with permanently mounted 4.5 metre long charging cables – 7.5 metres are also available as an option. The wallbox comes with a DC residual current protection already integrated, which should enable “simple and cost-efficient installation”. The housing design is strongly reminiscent of the wall boxes that were previously shown on ID.3 drawings. With a charging capacity of 11 kW, the ID.3 with 58 kWh battery (e.g. the 1ST exclusive model) is to be fully charged in six hours.

In addition to the basic version, VW announces two further variants of the ID. Charger. The top model of the Wallbox series will be the ID. Charger Pro, which will cost 849 euros. In addition to a standard LTE module, the Pro version also offers an integrated electricity meter for kilowatt-hour billing – either for the driver’s control of electricity requirements or for billing between company car driver and employer. The price already includes the costs for data transfer via LTE.

The ID model ranks between the basic version and the top model – charger Connect, which supplements the 11 kW wall box with several digital services. The Wallbox can be integrated into the home network via WLAN and LAN; an optional LTE module is available for an unspecified surcharge. The charging processes can be controlled via the web interface or smartphone, and remote maintenance and software updates are also possible in this way. Since the Connect version connects to the backend, one can manage access for multiple users via a charge card. VW quotes 599 Euro as the introductory price.

All three versions can be ordered from the end of November via the Internet or from a VW dealer. Before purchasing, customers can check online, whether the installation is possible without any problems. If desired, Volkswagen also offers to take over the professional installation and start-up of the wall box but quoted no price for this. Optionally, the VW subsidiary Elli also provides a suitable green electricity package.

As a VW spokesman stated, the introductory prices are to apply “in any case until the end of 2020”. After that, Volkswagen reserve the right to make price adjustments.
